First Aid at Work - 3 day course

Level 3 First Aid at Work : 3 day course.

The Health & Safety requirements are that employers are obligated to provide a safe and healthy environment to work in. If when you carry out your assessment of first aid needs in your environment then highlights the need for qualified first aiders, then this level 3 qualification (level 6 in Scotland) provides you with suitable, highly trained personnel.

This is comprehensive three-day course which covers a wide range of first aid scenarios, enabling all participants to deal with emergency situations with greater confidence in a prompt, safe and effective way. In addition, this course will include any protocol changes that may have arisen since their last training course.

This course will give the participants a qualification to the highest level of First Aid, meeting the statutory requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

  • Legalities, responsibilities and reporting
  • Heart attacks
  • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
  • Eye injuries
  • Fractures 
  • Spinal injuries
  • Choking
  • Control of bleeding
  • Chest injuries
  • Assessment of the situation
  • Diabetes

  • Anaphylaxis
  • Asthma
  • Head injuries
  • Poisoning
  • Sprains and strains
  • Stroke
  • Burns
  • Epilepsy
  • Resuscitation
  • Bandaging
  • Shock (including Anaphylaxis)


Typical delivery methods are predominantly practical and the course is assessed by continual observation of candidate performance.


This qualification lasts for 3 years. To renew the qualification, learners will need to sit the FAW Re-Qual course. However, the HSE strongly recommend candidates take an annual 3 hour refresher during the lifetime of the qualification.

A maximum of 12 students are allowed and all must be a minimum of 14 years of age and a certificate can be offered to all, subject to assessment. A student cannot assume a responsibility in the workplace until they reach the age of 16, and then it is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that the student is suitable for that role. The certificate will expire as dated on the certificate, irrespective of age.

Course Duration

The course consists of 18 hours contact / tuition time which is normally spread over at least 3 days. The course should ideally be run over three consecutive days. At First Aid Training North East Ltd we are flexible and can tailor the course to suit your specific needs. We need to ensure that once the course starts that the course is completed within 10 weeks of starting and each session needs to be at least two hours in duration.
